Office of the Principal

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

It is my pleasure to return to serve the students of Shawsville Middle School. I am excited and energized to begin a new school year in a community where opportunities for students are boundless.  I challenge students and staff to maximize their ability to be successful this year.  There are many activities, events and special occasions planned to make this year rewarding and satisfying.

I ask each student to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you. Challenge yourself every day in the classroom, on the playing field, and in life in general. My goal for you is to become a well-rounded, capable member of the school community. We have leadership opportunities for you to grow and blossom.

I invite parents and community members to support school efforts through giving of their time and expertise to our school enabling us to prepare future leaders.  I desire for your child’s school experiences to be enriching and supportive, yet challenging and rigorous, during one of the most important stages in their life.

I have a few guiding principles for all students, staff, and community members to remember while each of us are here. These guiding principles will allow for maximum opportunity for each student to learn and grow into a responsible, productive adult. Be respectful to each other and our facility. Be appropriate in our language, dress, and conduct. Be responsible for your actions and how those actions affect others. Be prepared for each day. And always be on time.

Our exceptional faculty and staff are dedicated to helping your child learn, grow and succeed as a person.  High expectations and excellence are priorities at SMS.  We utilize patience and persistence while preparing your child for the rigors of high school, college and life. In keeping with middle school practices, SMS is structured around interdisciplinary grade-level teams that serve the academic needs of our students while providing a personal experience during their most formative years. We offer a wide range of electives:  Agriculture, Technology Education, Digital Input Technology, Family and Consumer Science, World Language, Music, Band and Fine Arts.  In addition, students have the opportunity to earn high school credits by taking Spanish I, Algebra I, Geometry, and/or Earth Science.  Our students are encouraged to develop new skills and to explore their interests by participating in a variety of programs offered throughout the year.

I want to encourage parents to be an active member of our school community. Whether you join the PTO, volunteer at school events and functions or just read the newsletter from the end of each grading period, your support will be appreciated and our students will benefit.  Contact me anytime if you have any questions.  I look forward to hearing from you. I welcome the opportunity to meet with students, parents, and community members as we must work together for all of us to succeed. I look forward to meeting you in the hallways, on the athletic fields, and in the community. Go Mustangs!
