Title I Information:  Federally funded program  Provides supplemental reading support for students in grades 6-8  Teachers provide daily, small group or team instruction in Literacy Lab or English/Language Arts  Uses various instructional materials and strategies to improve reading  Research-based interventions founded in the science of reading are implemented  Spending Title I Funds:  Title I provides funds for:  Title I Teachers/Reading specialists  Instructional Specialists/Coaches  Literacy Aides  Teaching Materials and Resources  Parent Involvement Activities  Training for Teachers  Title I Goals:  For our students to be successful in school:  For our students to read on or above grade level by the end of grade eight:  For our students to pass English Benchmark assessments in all grades:  For our students to pass the SOL test in grades 6-8: and  For our students to develop a life-long love of learning!  How Do We Identify Title I Students?  Students who show needs in a particular area in reading or literacy indicated through assessments may receive additional support.  Parents are notified if their child is receiving additional support from a reading specialist or classroom teacher.  Assessments which may determine the need for additional support are as follows: Writing Rubrics, SOLs, and Division Benchmarks.  How Can I Help?  Make sure your child comes to school.  Establish a homework routine.  Talk with your child's teachers.  Attend parent involvement activities at SMS.  Attend our division parent involvement activities, including DPAC (Division Parent Advisory Committee).  What Else Can I Do?  Take your child to the MFRL public library.  Read with your child daily.  Have your child read to you.  Play learning games and board games with your child.  Limit TV and computer "screen time" to two hours or less daily.  Use time wisely in the car (talk, play memory games, listen to books on reading apps, etc.)  Who Do I Contact?
