Educational Talent Search is a program that supports Middle School students and High School students in planning for life after High School. We offer bi-monthly in-school sessions for middle schoolers and monthly in-school sessions for high schoolers. During our programming, we discuss academic skills, social skills, career and workforce readiness skills that prepare students to thrive in the workforce, community college, and/or college/university. In addition to our in-school programming, we offer single day and multi-day trips to visit colleges, summer camps at Virginia Tech, and Saturday Sessions on Virginia Tech's campus. This program is free to students and their families once they are admitted to the program. Good morning All,
We’d like to thank our former student, Eilley Harrison, for building a community book share in our bus loop. This beautiful addition can be found right beside the gazebo and is filled with books for anyone to come and get. This work was done for Eilley’s Silver Award for Girl Scouts. She spent her volunteer hours creating something that will benefit her community for years to come. She chose to create the community book share because of her love of reading and desire to encourage reading in Shawsville. As we all know, literacy is one of the most essential life skills needed to be successful! Please see the beautiful photos below of her development.

Shawsville Middle School Athletics Fan/Spectator Expectations

Dear Mustang Athletics Parents/Guardians,
First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone for their dedication to supporting our student-athletes with passion and love. I wanted to send a reminder about expectations for spectators and fan behavior during games. At Shawsville Middle School, a key component of our student-athletes is for them to carry themselves with sportsmanship and class during all athletic contests. We ask that you all do the same. We all are representatives of the Shawsville community and always aim to be viewed positively with class and respect. The following actions will result in potential removal from games or being banned from athletics events at Shawsville Middle School:
1. Yelling negative or derogatory statements at referees, student-athletes, or coaches.
2. Using profane language at any time.
3. Disrespectful behavior towards other fans/spectators.
If you experience any issues during a game, please come and see me or Mr. Hairston. Please assist us in supporting your student-athletes with class and sportsmanship as you are representing both your player and the community as a whole. Passion is always acceptable when it doesn’t turn into negativity. I completely understand the importance of passion as a former high school and college student-athlete along with my time as a middle school, JV, and Varsity coach.
